SUMMARY:Virtual Town Hall: Affordable Housing - What It Is\, Why It's Needed\, How We Get There
DESCRIPTION:Register Today! \n\nHousing is the missing ingredient to our region’s prosperity\, and the smartest investment we could make is to add it back in.\n\n\nPrince William is one of the few Northern Virginia jurisdictions to not have an affordable housing policies or funding. Now\, as the County updates its Comprehensive and Strategic Plans\, Supervisors Boddye and Franklin invite you to join them in a town hall on this important topic.\n\nA Community Foundation study of housing in the DC Metro region found critical gaps in housing affordability across jurisdictions and income levels. This has real economic and quality of life consequences for the community as a whole. “Without stable housing\, it is difficult for people to obtain economic security\, a quality education\, good health and employment\,” said Terri Lee Freeman\, president of The Community Foundation for the National Capital Region.\n\nEven middle-income households working in fields such as education\, public safety and nursing can find themselves priced out of the market. It will take innovative policies and community collaboration to find a path forward.\n\nThe Supervisors will be joined by Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments Housing Programs Manager Hillary Champan\, PWC Community Development Director Rebecca Horner and PWC Planning Director Parag Agrawal. Together\, the panel will take a local lens to this regional challenge\, welcoming audience input via chat. You can also submit your questions in advance during the registration process\, on Eventbrite.

SUMMARY:Virtual Town Hall: Future of Juvenile Justice in Prince William
DESCRIPTION:Historically\, court-involved youth were treated much like adults\, serving their sentences in prison-like settings\, with little focus on providing the treatment and training that could help them successfully transition after release. During this town hall\, hear how the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) is using its Transformation Strategic Framework to break that paradigm\, with a focus on diversion programs\, trauma-informed treatment and education. \nThe new Juvenile Services Campus in Prince William would support these initiatives\, with a homelike environment and detention alternatives that are more conducive to rehabilitation and reducing recidivism. Additionally\, with fewer youth now entering into detention—in 2017\, 80% of Virginia court-involved youth were eligible for diversion plans—the new facility would be smaller\, potentially co-locating with counseling and additional services. \nJoin learn about the research behind these changes and what they mean in Prince William County\, as we look at progress as well as remaining challenges\, both within the justice system and in our communities. Participants are invited to submit questions in advance or during the event\, via the chat feature. Visit EventBrite to register and for additional information on the topic.  \nA panel discussion with: \n\nSupervisor Kenny Boddye\, Occoquan District PWC \nJeffrey S. Homan\, Director 31st District Court Service Unit DJJ\nGreg Porter\, Intake Supervisor 31st District Court Service Unit DJJ \nDee Kirk\, Northern Regional Program Manager DJJ\nCourtney S.
