Wildlife is abundant. Eagles\, beavers\, herons and all sorts of waterfowl can be seen on this tour. The adventure begins from a convenient launch on beautiful Neabsco Creek.  Located just half an hour or forty-five minutes from DC\, this paddling facility feels as though it is worlds away.  The tour takes place adjacent to the wonderful Featherstone National Wildlife Refuge\, Julie J. Metz Wetlands Bank\, and Leesylvania State Park.  Neabsco Creek is home to an abundant\, diverse\, and beautiful ecosystem.  In this two hour-long paddle it is very common to see Bald Eagles\, beavers\, various fish\, and other critters enjoying the pristine setting.  Enjoy access via paddle power to areas that power boats cannot get to! As Presiding Coordinator to ORMA\, and board member to many other organizations associated with our waterways\, Pat cheerfully volunteered countless hours of her time throughout the years and her passion for the water was contagious. Please help us celebrate her wonderful life by participating in this event.\n\nThe Blessing of the Fleet is a centuries-old tradition where receiving a blessing from the local Clergy was meant to ensure a safe and bountiful season. This year\, to celebrate Pat’s colorful spirit\, we are highly encouraging everyone to decorate their boats for the event.\n\nSCHEDULE:\nOn May 15th\, first responder boats will pass Belmont Bay Harbor Marina at approximately 9:30am\, heading upriver\, toward the Town of Occoquan. At approximately 10am\, the first responder boats will turn around near the Occoquan Town Dock and begin heading back downriver\, toward Belmont Bay Harbor Marina. The fire boat will lead the group\, spraying a spectacular Water Salute for all to enjoy! Interested spectators can view first responder boats from land at Town of Occoquan’s dock at Mamie Davis Park\, from the shores of Occoquan Park\, as well as many restaurants/marinas along the Occoquan River.\n\nBOATER PARTICIPATION:\n\nAll boats can be blessed simply by passing the ORMA blessing boat\, Rhumb Line\, docked at Belmont Bay Harbor Marina during the event hours. FOR PRIZE ELIGIBILITY\, boats must be registered for the event through the SIGN IN button on the ORMA Facebook page before midnight on May 14\, 2021 ***AND*** participation must be validated by ORMA as having passed the blessing boat during the event hours.\n\nDIGNITARY PARTICIPATION:\n\nRepresentatives from the Town of Occoquan\, Prince William and Fairfax Counties\, as well as VA State\, are invited to give their well wishes to boaters as they pass the Blessing boat.\n\n*** PRIZES ***\nDecorated boats that are registered have an opportunity to win boat fuel gift cards; $500 for 1st place from Prince William Marina; $300 for 2nd place from Belmont Bay Harbor Marina\, and $200 for 3rd place from Occoquan Harbor Marina. Additional prizes include two $100 boat fuel gift cards from Hoffmaster’s Marina\, as well as gift cards from restaurants\, salons\, pet stores\, and more! DESCRIPTION:Peep Week\nDuring the Easter holidays\, Occoquan businesses display creative dioramas using marshmallow Peeps! Dioramas are based on current events\, community happenings\, politics\, movies\, art\, science fiction\, and fantasy. Visitors to Occoquan will judge each diorama\, vote for their favorites\, and enter the drawing to win prizes. This year our Peep Show extends to Peep Week to give everyone a chance to vote. \nIn conjunction\, the town hosts a Community Peep Contest with prizes in each category.  The community is invited to participate in Peep Week by designing\, creating\, and submitting their very own family-friendly Peep dioramas. \n2021 Occoquan Community Peep Contest \nBuild your very own Peeps diorama and enter to win a $25 prize to spend at any Occoquan business! For the 4th year in a row\, the community is invited to participate in the Town of Occoquan Community Peep Contest by designing\, creating\, and submitting family-friendly Peep dioramas. \nEnter by March 25 to win in one of four categories: Individual; Family/Team; Youth (ages 12-16); and Kids (12 and under). \nSign up through this Google form. \nParticipate virtually by uploading photos of your project. We’ll use 1 or 2 of them for the contest. Participate in person by dropping your completed diorama (with entry info) at Town Hall between Monday March 22\, and Thursday\, March 25\, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. \nJudging will take place on Facebook March 27 through April 2. Entries with the most “likes” in each category wins and winners will be announced April 3 on Facebook.

DESCRIPTION:Register here! \nPublic Meeting Hosts: Supervisor Kenny Boddye and Occoquan Mayor Earnie Porta \nPublic Meeting Participants: Presentations by Fairfax Water and the Prince William County Service Authority \nProject Name: Occoquan River Crossing Project \nProject Description: Fairfax Water\, which is the wholesale provider of drinking water for eastern Prince William County\, will install two parallel 42-inch water mains underneath the Occoquan River and make other improvements in order to increase drinking water transmission capacity and enhance system reliability for the Service Authority’s existing and future customers. The project is a collaboration among Fairfax Water\, the Prince William County Service Authority and Virginia American Water. The project also includes connecting Fairfax Water’s Griffith Water Treatment Plant to the new 42-inch water mains at the Occoquan River\, installing a new water pump at the Griffith Plant and establishing interconnections between existing water mains in Prince William County: one at Tanyard Hill Road and the other at the Horner Road Commuter Parking Lot. \nProject Timing: Construction is scheduled begin in winter 2021-22 with completion anticipated in Spring 2023. \nProject Web Page:  https://www.pwcsa.org/Occoquan-River-Crossing

SUMMARY:The Band of the Nation’s Capital Concert
DESCRIPTION:The Band of the Nation’s Capital is a unit of the District of Columbia Army National Guard. The band boasts a proud lineage going back to the organizational lineage and association with the legendary Corcoran Cadets\, the DC militia that inspired John Philip Sousa to compose his march of the same name. Noteworthy performances include musical support for the Inauguration of President Obama\, performances in Greece\, Jamaica\, the US Virgin Islands and Panama\, consecutive appearances at the Great American Brass Band Festival and concert tours throughout New England\, Texas and the Mid-Atlantic. Although centrally located among the finest military bands in the world\, The 257th Army Band is officially recognized as “The Band of the Nation’s Capital”.

DESCRIPTION:Occoquan District Supervisor Boddye will be joining Town of Occoquan Mayor Earnie Porta for the town’s third “Contact-free Food Drive\,” this Saturday May 16\, 10am-12pm! Your donations of nonperishable food items\, personal care products or gift cards will be given to The Good News Community Kitchen and ACTS to help those families who are hardest hit by the pandemic. In April\, your generous support DOUBLED their supplies! \nThe most-needed items are are jelly\, hot and cold cereal\, rice\, soup\, tomatoes (sauced/diced/crushed)\, and beans and vegetables (frozen/canned/bagged ). This event is set up to minimize risk to you and our volunteers. Drive to the end of Mill Street\, and either: \n\nPut bags on the ground near donation station\, then volunteers will retrieve your donation after you are back in your car.\nUnlock or pop your trunk\, and instruct volunteers to retrieve items.\n\nOur volunteers will also be masked and practicing appropriate physical distancing. If you wish to take a picture to help promote the drive\, please put on a mask before approaching the donation area and maintain at least 10 feet of distance from others. Better yet\, take a picture from the safety of your car\, demonstrating this novel way of giving in these unusual times.  \n \n  \n
