SUMMARY:Understanding ACEs: A Training to Recognize Adverse Childhood Experiences and Their Impact to Our Health and Wellbeing
DESCRIPTION:Understanding ACEs:\nA Training to Recognize Adverse Childhood Experiences and Their Impact to Our Health and Wellbeing\nWhat are ACEs?\nAdverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are traumatic childhood events\, such as abuse and neglect\, parental divorce\, domestic violence\, and parental mental illness\, among others. Experiencing an ACE can increase the odds of developing serious adult health issues like depression\, cancer\, liver disease and heart disease. A trauma-informed perspective and approach to care can alleviate the negative impacts brought on by ACEs and significantly improve health outcomes. \n  \nTraining Objectives: \nParticipants will be able to expand their knowledge of: \n1. The importance of identifying and addressing adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) \n2. The impact of ACEs’ on the brain and behavior \n3. Why my community needs to get organized and mobilized to identify/address ACEs \n4. Developing a trauma-informed approach to care including self-care \n5. The role of ACEs in my life \nPlease register for by registering at the links below: \nMonday\, June 7 at 9:00 am\nhttps://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJYrd-CqqDgtHNATrXzDMyGFqoL2z6zyd5it \nThursday\, June 24 at 6:30pm\nhttps://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJIscO2gpjMtHNbJ0_8aIxOKQAJCbwo-vnBK \nSaturday\, July 10 at 9:30 am\nhttps://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJwld-yurz4uGNKNTxDuvIVJkmbqZD-9trXq \nPlease contact Heather Martinsen at 703-792-7739 or HMartinsen@pwcgov.org for more information.

SUMMARY:Virtual Town Hall: Affordable Housing - What It Is\, Why It's Needed\, How We Get There
DESCRIPTION:Register Today! \n\nHousing is the missing ingredient to our region’s prosperity\, and the smartest investment we could make is to add it back in.\n\n\nPrince William is one of the few Northern Virginia jurisdictions to not have an affordable housing policies or funding. Now\, as the County updates its Comprehensive and Strategic Plans\, Supervisors Boddye and Franklin invite you to join them in a town hall on this important topic.\n\nA Community Foundation study of housing in the DC Metro region found critical gaps in housing affordability across jurisdictions and income levels. This has real economic and quality of life consequences for the community as a whole. “Without stable housing\, it is difficult for people to obtain economic security\, a quality education\, good health and employment\,” said Terri Lee Freeman\, president of The Community Foundation for the National Capital Region.\n\nEven middle-income households working in fields such as education\, public safety and nursing can find themselves priced out of the market. It will take innovative policies and community collaboration to find a path forward.\n\nThe Supervisors will be joined by Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments Housing Programs Manager Hillary Champan\, PWC Community Development Director Rebecca Horner and PWC Planning Director Parag Agrawal. Together\, the panel will take a local lens to this regional challenge\, welcoming audience input via chat. You can also submit your questions in advance during the registration process\, on Eventbrite.

SUMMARY:Free Suicide Prevention Training: Question\, Persuade\, Refer
DESCRIPTION:Question\, Persuade\, Refer (QPR)\nSuicide Prevention Training\nQPR stands for Question\, Persuade\, and Refer — the 3 simple yet powerful steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. Just as people trained in CPR help save thousands of lives each year\, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question\, persuade\, and refer someone to the help they need. Each year\, thousands of Americans\, like you\, are saying “Yes” to saving the life of a friend\, colleague\, sibling\, or neighbor by becoming a part of the QPR life-saving network. \nQPR can be learned in our 90-minute Gatekeeper training course. Gatekeepers can be anyone including parents\, friends\, neighbors\, teachers\, ministers\, doctors\, nurses\, office supervisors\, police officers\, volunteer coaches\, youth organization leaders\, caseworkers\, firefighters\, and many others who are strategically positioned to recognize and refer someone at risk of suicide. \nAs a QPR-trained Gatekeeper you will learn to:\n• Recognize the warning signs of suicide\n• Ask tough questions and offer hope\n• Get help and save a life \nThe Community Services Behavioral Health Wellness Team is offering QPR trainings throughout the year to assist our residents in helping others and broaden our QPR Network across Greater Prince William. Now\, more than ever\, it is important to reach out to our friends\, family members\, neighbors\, and colleagues to engage in health promotion and suicide prevention conversations. \nPlease use the links below to register for an upcoming QPR training. \nTuesday\, May 11 at 6:00 pm\nhttps://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJErd-yopz4tGdJeoQCYPHaeAcb4-tDQe7E7 \nMonday\, May 24 at 10:30 am\nhttps://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJIqdO2sqjovGd0zwFpuws6_LlmQH9OVo-GE \nSaturday\, June 5 at 9:30 am\nhttps://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJ0vce6gqzgrGNZWshjAG81wEK04NqaMi53d \nFriday\, June 11 at 1:00 pm\nhttps://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJYtd-mgqzopGdd2Q9CXgZIS80wQBAj8LJD7 \nWednesday\, June 23 at 4:30 pm\nhttps://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJ0ucu2sqjwpEtyZyx92IlFUwpmKo81nouu6 \nThursday\, July 1 at 10:00 am\nhttps://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJApdO-pqT4tHd3Gb1tNL0zXGu50WPuTkq9T \nFor more information contact Heather Martinsen at 571-641-7019 or HMartinsen@pwcgov.org
