SUMMARY:Transportation Tuesday! Route 28 Bypass Project Design Process and Timeline Informational Session
DESCRIPTION:Last month\, the Prince William County Department of Transportation launched an event series called ‘Transportation Tuesday’ in an effort to establish a regular cadence to further discuss topics related to the Route 28 Bypass project in a more informal setting. These are short information sessions for the public to learn more about specific aspects of the Route 28 Bypass project. Unlike previous information sessions\, these short ‘Transportation Tuesdays’ will not include a live Q&A portion. Rather\, we will dive deeper into residents’ previously identified concerns and we will capture additional questions that will shape future communication and engagement. \nWe are having the second event in series on Tuesday\, April 27th at 12pm\, with our second topic\, focusing on the Design Process and Timeline. We will be utilizing the multi-language channel feature Zoom provides and have Spanish speaking interpreters for those who prefer to listen in Spanish. In addition\, the session will be recorded and posted on our Route 28 Bypass website to increase accessibility. \nPlease visit Route28Bypass.com to join this meeting and learn more about PWCDOT Route 28 Bypass events. \n \n  \nPrince William County Government \nDepartment of Transportation | Planning Division \n5 County Complex Ct.\, Prince William\, VA 22192 \nwww.pwcgov.org/transportation

DESCRIPTION:UNITY IN THE COMMUNITY \nINVITES THE PUBLIC \nSUNDAY\, APRIL 18 \n6:30p-8:30p \nTO A VIRTUAL TRAINING \nBASED ON \nKINGIAN 6 PRACTICES \n \n  \nWHAT IS KINGIAN NONVIOLENCE? \nKingian Nonviolence Conflict Reconciliation is an approach to conflict and community leadership that offers values and methods useful for anyone who wants to use conflict constructively in their personal life\, in group settings\, or in community issues and building a reconciled world. \nKingian Nonviolence workshops are transformational experiences that have helped thousands of people around the world understand the depth of the philosophy of nonviolence and learn to begin to bring the practices into their lives and their work. Dr. Bernard LaFayette\, Jr.\, and David Jehnsen\, both of whom served on Dr. King’s staff in the 1960s\, and who sought to make lessons and tools from the Kingian legacy and the Civil Rights Movement period available for\npeople to address today’s conflicts\, concerns\, and conditions. \nThis two-hour event via Zoom will provide an initial introduction to the Kingian Nonviolence approach. \nFacilitators: Matt Guynn\, director of organizing\, On Earth Peace; Pam Smith\, executive director\, Addie Wyatt Center for Nonviolence Training \nPlease email UnityInTheCommunity20100@gmail.com for more information and registration\n  \nClick on the link to REGISTER \nhttps://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfLpRrbcuxhmgGmBQheRH0gXNIlh_d29Xjt-C-4j3sfNfXJFw/viewform?usp=pp_url

Realizing it was time for a change in Prince William County\, in September 2020\, the Board of County Supervisors approved a resolution to request that the Virginia Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) change the name of Route 1 in Prince William County from Jefferson Davis Highway. On Nov. 24\, 2020\, CTB unanimously approved the request to rename Route 1 in Prince William County to Richmond Highway. \nAs the County moves forward with the name change process\, public engagement is a central focus in this effort. The public is invited to ask questions after the presentation and to provide feedback. \nThe County will ensure that the public stays informed throughout the process with additional virtual town halls\, mailings\, and a dedicated project webpage. This also includes reaching out to impacted business owners and residents to make this transition as smooth as possible. The project is expected to take up to two years to fully implement. Please know there is time to prepare business owners and residents for this change\, and it is the commitment of the County to minimize the impact as much as possible. \nThe County will post a recording of this meeting and the accompanying presentation on the project webpage. \nMeeting Registration Information \n• Register to attend: https://pwc-doit.webex.com/pwc-doit/onstage/g.php?MTID=ebeca84e744c0ca2eb4c511e6f0ada0ee \n*Once participants register\, they will receive both a meeting link and an audio-only dial-in number. *  \nQuestions\, Comments\, Or Feedback \nPlease submit questions\, comments\, or feedback using one of the methods below. SUMMARY:Virtual Town Hall: Future of Juvenile Justice in Prince William
DESCRIPTION:Historically\, court-involved youth were treated much like adults\, serving their sentences in prison-like settings\, with little focus on providing the treatment and training that could help them successfully transition after release. During this town hall\, hear how the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) is using its Transformation Strategic Framework to break that paradigm\, with a focus on diversion programs\, trauma-informed treatment and education. \nThe new Juvenile Services Campus in Prince William would support these initiatives\, with a homelike environment and detention alternatives that are more conducive to rehabilitation and reducing recidivism. Additionally\, with fewer youth now entering into detention—in 2017\, 80% of Virginia court-involved youth were eligible for diversion plans—the new facility would be smaller\, potentially co-locating with counseling and additional services. \nJoin learn about the research behind these changes and what they mean in Prince William County\, as we look at progress as well as remaining challenges\, both within the justice system and in our communities. Participants are invited to submit questions in advance or during the event\, via the chat feature. Visit EventBrite to register and for additional information on the topic.  \nA panel discussion with: \n\nSupervisor Kenny Boddye\, Occoquan District PWC \nJeffrey S. Homan\, Director 31st District Court Service Unit DJJ\nGreg Porter\, Intake Supervisor 31st District Court Service Unit DJJ \nDee Kirk\, Northern Regional Program Manager DJJ\nCourtney S.
