SUMMARY:QPR-Suicide Awareness and Gatekeeper Training (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:QPR stands for Question\, Persuade\, and Refer — the 3 simple yet powerful steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. Just as people trained in CPR help save thousands of lives each year\, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question\, persuade\, and refer someone to the help they need. Each year\, thousands of Americans\, like you\, are saying “Yes” to saving the life of a friend\, colleague\, sibling\, or neighbor by becoming a part of the QPR life-saving network. \nQPR can be learned in our 90-minute Gatekeeper training course. Gatekeepers can be anyone including parents\, friends\, neighbors\, teachers\, ministers\, doctors\, nurses\, office supervisors\, police officers\, volunteer coaches\, youth organization leaders\, caseworkers\, firefighters\, and many others who are strategically positioned to recognize and refer someone at risk of suicide. \nAs a QPR-trained Gatekeeper you will learn to: \n\nRecognize the warning signs of suicide\nAsk tough questions and offer hope\nGet help and save a life\n\nThe Community Services Wellness and Prevention Team is offering QPR training throughout the year to assist our residents in helping others and broaden our QPR Network across Greater Prince William. Now\, more than ever\, it is important to reach out to our friends\, family members\, neighbors\, and colleagues to engage in health promotion and suicide prevention conversations. \nPlease visit https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/b9_EfiC8Qqq-uaJxvjsbBA to register. \nPlease contact CSPrevention@pwcgov.org or 571-641-7019 with any questions. Registration will be confirmed via email.

SUMMARY:2026 Point in Time Count (PIT)
DESCRIPTION:2026 Point-in-Time Count (PIT) will be Wednesday\, Jan. 28\, 2026 overnight into Thursday\, Jan. 29\, 2026\, with Thursday\, Jan. 29\, 2026 evening also being a backup date if weather doesn’t permit the PIT count to happen on Wednesday night. \nThe PIT count is a count of sheltered and unsheltered persons experiencing homelessness that the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) requires each Continuum of Care (CoC) receiving federal funds nationwide to conduct in the last 10 days of January each year. \nThe PIT establishes the dimensions of the problem of homelessness and helps policymakers and program administrators track progress toward the goal of ending homelessness. HUD uses this information from the local PIT counts\, among other data sources\, to prepare the congressionally mandated Annual Homeless Assessment Report (AHAR). This report informs Congress about the number of people experiencing homelessness in the US as well as the effectiveness of HUD programs. On the local and regional level\, the PIT counts help CoC’s plan services and programs to appropriately address local needs\, measure progress in decreasing homelessness\, and identify strengths and gaps in their current system. \nVolunteer Registration Closed.
