“Navigating the Special Education Maze”
with Cheri Belkowitz, Attorney at Law

Where: Virtual Meeting via Zoom
- Learn how to best advocate for your child in the school system.
- Understand the protections under the law and how to navigate eligibility, 504 Plans, IEPs, transition services, least restrictive environment (including inclusion practices), private school placement, compensatory education, and disciplinary actions.
- Understand your rights as parents and the role the school plays in the special education process.
- Discover common pitfalls made during the process and the best way to ensure your child’s educational, social, physical, and emotional needs at school.
Cheri Belkowitz – an attorney licensed in Virginia and Washington, DC – is a zealous advocate for children and their families in all school-related matters, including special education, disciplinary actions, bullying cases, restraint and seclusion, and transitioning out of public school. She is active in the special needs community, having served as Chair of the Fairfax Public Schools Advisory Committee for Students with Disabilities (SEAC) from 2016-2020 and as a member of the Board of Directors of The Arc of Northern Virginia. Cheri is presently the Events Chairperson for the Fairfax Special Education PTA (SEPTA).
