At the March 3, 2026 Finance & Budget Committee meeting, Supervisor Boddye presented a budget proposal that would create dedicated funding for three urgent needs:
- Housing affordability
- Transit/transportation
- Sustainability/resiliency
The proposal called for:
– Raising the computer & peripheral property tax by 30 cents — a tax that is paid overwhelmingly by data centers
– Splitting the new revenue evenly: 10 cents each to housing, transit, and resiliency
– Treating this new revenue as dedicated (exempt from revenue sharing), similar to how the fire levy works
“This is about building the capacity to solve problems we all feel,” Boddye said.
