The Prince William County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc.’s annual MLK Celebration will be virtual this year. A number of events, and a fundraiser, will take place leading up to the high school oration contest on Jan. 18, 2021 at 11 am–Martin Luther King, Jr. Day–which features special guest Reverend Al Sharpton.
The first event will be the MLK Virtual Community Choir Preview Concert hosted by Chinn Library, at 3 pm on Jan. 2, 2021. On the 18th, “tune in” as high school orators deliver speeches on the theme of “Beyond the Dream: Young Voices With Something To Say.” All Greater Prince William school districts will be represented (Prince William, Manassas and Manassas Park) and the MLK Virtual Community Choir will perform again. There are a number of ways that the public can support this storied community tradition that prioritizes the voices of our youth:
- MLK Candle Fundraiser: Just in time for the Holiday season! HandCrafted Expressions is a black woman owned business that will be dedicating profits from your purchase of its MLK candles (Impactful and Inspired scents) to the program. Use this link to make a purchase online: https://handcraftedexpressions.com/be-the-light/. Discount code DSTMLK is limited to local pick-up purchases retrieved on on Dec. 12 only. Order by Friday to receive this special offer.
- FREE TICKETS/REGISTRATION/DONATIONS: Register to join the events online, and invite friends and family to do the same. You can also use the link to make donations.
- MLK DAY OF SERVICE PROJECT: From 3-5pm on Jan. 18, bring donations of toiletries (shampoo, razors, conditioner, hand sanitizer, deodorant) to the upper room at Christian Cathedral, 10654 Wakeman Court, Manassas, VA 20110. This is a contact-less drive benefiting the Manassas Hunger & Homeless Outreach Ministries.
Additionally, Delta Sigma Theta will broadcast both programs on its YouTube Channel. Tune in on Jan. 2 and 18!
