The Board’s Latest Budget Delivers on Community Priorities: Park’s Maintenance and Operations Division shared that all the new trails maintenance staff position the Board of County Supervisors funded in the FY25 budget have been filled, growing the crew from two people to five. The Board also funded the purchase of equipment needed to tackle trails projects.
Progress Continues on the Occoquan Greenway: Work on bridge and trail reroute improvements to the Segment 2 begin in January, installing 50’x6′ fiberglass reinforced polymer (FRP) bridge and rerouting approximately 615 linear feet of natural surface trail near Aviary Way. The PWC Department of Transportation is close to completing the Segment 8 design phase. Meanwhile, Parks staff is working with Prince William Water on Segment 6 (Hooes Run) Bridge design while also drafting access agreements.
New Trails and Playground Upgrades: The ARPA-funded Cotton Mill Trail project through Lake Ridge Park is moving along. It will add a trail along Cotton Mill Drive, relocate utilities, and add paving improvements within the park. At Chinn Aquatic and Fitness Center, a purchase order has been processed for new equipment and safety surfacing to replace the aging playground this spring.
