Regional Collaboration: MWCOG Committee Leadership

It’s my honor to represent Prince William County as a member of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments. This year, I am Chair of the group’s Air Quality Control Committee Chair and Vice Chair of the Chesapeake Bay Policy Committee (CBPC). Like many municipal issues, environmental challenges require regional solutions.
The CBPC tracks developments under the federal-state Chesapeake Bay Program, recommends Bay-related policies to the Board, and tracks other regional water quality issues. It’s through this group that I called for a regional communications strategy in Spring 2023 to educate consumers about “forever chemicals” in an effort to limit their entry into our water supply. True to its name, the Air Quality Committee prepares an air quality plan for the DC-MD-VA Metropolitan Statistical Area, coordinates air quality planning activities, reviews policies, resolves policy differences, and adopts an air quality plan for the Washington DC metro region.
