After months of conversations between our office, constituents and Prince William County Department of Transportation (PWCDOT) staff, I was proud this April to motion for the Board of County Supervisors to authorize the installation of three speed tables on Cotton Mill Drive between Mohican Road and Antietam Road.
I decided to go see the speed tables — recently installed by Virginia DOT, in collaboration with PWC DOT — in action. After spending some time on Cotton Mill, I can report…they work! Regardless of vehicle size, every motorist that I observed slowed down as they approached a speed table.
While the speed tables are making this neighborhood safer, it is those who live here who did the heavy lifting to get us here. Dozens of residents contacted our office to alert us to the issue, and remained engaged throughout the lengthy process that leads to traffic calming measures. They met with my office, participated in meetings and public hearings, reviewed traffic study findings and signed a petition requesting that PWC DOT’s recommendations be implemented.
