Free At-Home COVID-19 Test Kits At Prince William Public Libraries, Jan. 31-Feb. 2

Prince William County government is distributing free, at-home COVID-19 test kits at 11 of its library branches starting on Monday, January 31 – Wednesday, February 2, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., while supplies last. Visit pwcva.gov/covid-19-test-kits for more information and daily updates.

Prince William County Government is distributing free, at-home COVID-19 test kits at all Prince William Public Libraries except Bull Run Library, while supplies last. Most sites will hold distributions from 10 am to 12 pm, Mon. Jan. 31- Wed., Feb. 2.  Bull Run Library will not distribute kits and Dale City Library will have kits available only Jan. 31. Several locations will host evening distribution hours as well, from 5-7 pm:  Central, Chinn Park, Haymarket Gainesville, Manassas City, Montclair, and Potomac Libraries.

Depending on supply availability, additional distribution times may be added. This information will be posted online: pwcva.gov/covid-19-test-kits.

“Once again, our county staff is pivoting to serve the community in new ways during the pandemic,” said Occoquan District Supervisor Kenny Boddye. Previously, library staff helped to work the County’s COVID hotline. “Testing is a critical part of our COVID response, allowing our health systems to continue tracking the latest infection trends and better mitigate surges. Increased testing, though efforts such as this, also allow us to limit COVID-19 spread while still going about much of our day-to-day lives.”

“Our vision at Prince William Public Libraries is to be the hub connecting people to the transforming power of information,” said PWPL Director Deborah Wright. “Sometimes information takes the form of literacy, sometimes it’s learning through free classes and programs, and sometimes it’s through providing a public service like distributing free COVID-19 test kits. We strive to be a community resource no matter what challenge is presented.”

Before heading to a library location, residents should call to ensure that kits are still available. Depending on the location, the kits may be distributed via curbside pickup or inside the library. Masks are required to be worn in libraries. Anyone exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms should have someone pick up the test on their behalf.

Tests should not be administered inside the library, and staff are unable to provide additional support. Each kit comes with instructions and the number for a customer service line, and wifi is available in all library parking lots. In addition to this three-day initiative, the County continues to host a Prince William Health District PCR test site at Pfitzner Stadium, behind the McCoart Building. These tests are also free, and available by appointment only. Learn more aon the Health District website.
