In the wake of our recent winter weather we’ve received some inquiries about proper tree trimming and yard maintenance, so we reached out to our Department of Public Works for some guidance! While the county cannot trim the trees or recommend a vendor directly, staff was happy to offer some tips that we hope you find helpful:
If the tree is smaller or younger, and you’d like to trim it yourself, see resources on the Virginia Cooperative Extension website, or call them at 703-792-7747 for advice specific to your tree. You can also review the County’s Tree Management FAQ.
For larger or more mature trees that may require specialized equipment, you’ll want a professional arborist to perform an evaluation. Look for companies that employ certified arborists and have liability insurance. The County arborist recommends calling several companies to compare quotes and plans of action.
You may also want to ask neighbors for referrals and look at Google reviews. If you are on Facebook, the Ladies of Lake Ridge and other community groups can be helpful for finding trusted vendors that meet recommended insurance and certification standards.
