During the Dec. 17, 2024 Board of County Supervisors Meeting, I issued a directive to amend Prince William’s 2025 Legislative Agenda to reflect the findings of the JLARC Data Center Study. The study outlines the industry’s positive economic impact and makes clear the state must grant localities greater authority to balance the economic benefits with environmental and quality-of-life protections for our residents. Among the changes I seek is state legislation protecting utility ratepayers from bearing energy costs brought on by data center proliferation; see my full list of changes below. The online overview of the JLARC findings is a quick read and well worth the time. We look forward to working with state leaders to address these concerns in their new legislative session.
