This morning, I joined elected officials, Northern Virginia Regional Commission staff, and locality partners from across Northern Virginia for the first in a series of work sessions to help shape the Commission’s first-ever Strategic Plan. It was a productive and energizing session — one that put housing front and center. Together, we:
• Visualized the regional housing challenges that every jurisdiction is feeling in some form
• Identified the tools, partnerships, and zoning reforms that are working
• Discussed gaps we can only fill by working together
• And began prioritizing concrete actions NVRC can take to support a coordinated, regional approach
From affordability to supply, from preservation to redevelopment, from transit access to climate resilience; these issues don’t stop at jurisdictional borders. Today made clear that we’re ready as a region to move from parallel efforts to shared strategies.
